A brief introduction to how Gingham Nanny Agency began

Gingham Nanny Agency launched a service in 2016 to offer childcare solutions to families who have experienced accidents, incidents or medical negligence. We work closely with Case Managers, Law Firms & Deputies and deliver highly focused specialist childcare recruitment & direct employment service for clients with brain, spinal & catastrophic injuries as well as SEN needs.

We focus on understanding each client’s injury and the impact on their lives, offering the most designated specialist nanny childcare support service with empathy and professionalism.

Our nannies are Ofsted registered, we are members of Babicm, CMSUK, REC and in the process of becoming CQC registered.

How did it all start?
A case manager approached our funder Dee Modric regarding a client — a mother who had been involved in a serious road traffic accident. She had sustained a severe brain injury alongside multiple physical injuries.

We successfully provided nannies for the family over a period of ten years, supporting the children through many transitions during their mother’s rehabilitation journey.

Our focused childcare support not only enabled the mother’s wider care team to focus on her rehabilitation, it also assured that the family as a whole were still able to enjoy the children’s milestones and their development, whilst gently nurturing her strong maternal instinct — a need that remained particularly prominent, as her brain injury had resulted in her emotional development being assessed as significantly younger than her chronological age.

Initially, our nannies worked on a 24-hour rota system to ensure round-the-clock support for the children. As the children grew older, the support evolved into before- and after-school care, with night-time & holiday support available as and when required. We are proud to say that these children now attend a college and a secondary school respectively and the family consisting of mother, father and the two children is still going strong, challenging the statistics and staying together throughout their incredible journey.

Following the success of this placement, Gingham Nanny Agency quicky built strong working relationships with many Case Managers and Legal Firms representing our mutual clients and, in many cases, we are working closely with the defending solicitors as well as other MDT members.

Today, we are supporting many families nationwide.
We work discreetly alongside wider professional teams to provide consistent, trauma-informed care, and we are confident in our ability to deliver the continuity of support families need throughout their recovery journey.

About the nannies

Our aim is to provide our nannies with relevant training and support to offer not only advanced childcare service but also emotional and practical support. At the same time ensuring that children’s needs are met while the parent focuses on rehabilitation.

This holistic approach complements the efforts of case managers, solicitors, and rehabilitation professionals by addressing the often-overlooked needs of children during a parent’s recovery journey.

Our nannies act as trusted eyes and ears on the ground, providing vital support to case managers. They maintain detailed nanny diaries, which can be invaluable for safeguarding, supervision, and, where necessary, litigation purposes. They also offer thoughtful, supportive feedback during supervision sessions with case managers.

All of our nannies are either Ofsted registered or willing to become registered. Every nanny receives comprehensive in-house training, including specialised post-trauma therapy training, to ensure they are fully informed about their role within the family dynamic.

In addition to regular supervision from our team, our nannies also receive supervision from the families’ case managers, ensuring a consistent and well-rounded support structure.

We are proud to offer a range of specialist nannies, including autism specialists and others with expertise in supporting a wide variety of physical, emotional, and developmental needs.

HOW DID GINGHAM NANNY AGENCY FIRST START WORKING WITH BRAIN, SPINAL, AND CATASTROPHIC MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE CASES?

Gingham Nanny Agency began working with lawyers and case managers over 14 years ago when we recognised a gap in services for families with additional medical and caregiving needs.
