Gingham Nanny Agency is recruiting an experienced and confident Specialist Nanny to join an established professional team supporting a family in Canvey Island following a road traffic accident.

This is a high-responsibility and rewarding position requiring a calm, structured and compassionate approach. The successful candidate will play an important role in providing proxy parenting support, maintaining consistency within the family home and helping to promote stability for the children.

About the Role:

Location: Canvey Island, Essex
Salary: £16.00–£20.00 per hour, depending on experience and suitability for the role.
Start: September 2026
Transportation: Driver with own car is essential
Position: Permanent | Shifts can be split / we are ideally looking to recruit 2-3 people
Weekday Hours: Mon – Fri 2.30pm – 9pm, possibly later on Wednesdays (until 11.30pm)
Weekend Hours: Saturdays 9am – midnight, Sundays 9am – 9pm

About the Family:

The family includes:
– 11-year-old girl
– 13-year-old boy
– 16-year-old girl
– 19-year-old young adult

The role involves supporting the children within a structured home environment whilst also assisting their father to maintain positive interaction and engagement with them.

The Role:

You will work collaboratively as part of a wider professional and multi-disciplinary team, providing consistent practical and emotional support within the family home.

The focus of the role is to maintain routines, boundaries, organisation and stability whilst helping the family navigate complex circumstances.

Key Responsibilities:

– Providing proxy parenting support within the family home
– Supporting the father with interaction and engagement with the children
– Maintaining appropriate routines, boundaries and structure
– Supporting the children’s emotional wellbeing
– School liaison and coordination
– Meal planning and preparation
– Undertaking household duties as required
– Organising and supporting age-appropriate activities
– Working collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary team
– Maintaining clear, professional and factual nanny records and documentation
– Communicating effectively with other professionals involved with the family
– Promoting consistency, stability and a calm home environment

About You:

We are looking for someone who is:

– Calm, confident and emotionally intelligent
– Highly organised and reliable
– Comfortable working within a professional, team-based care structure
– Able to maintain appropriate professional boundaries
– Confident completing written records and documentation
– Able to respond sensitively to children and families affected by trauma and significant life events
– Flexible and comfortable working within a rota environment

Previous experience within a specialist nanny role, complex family environment, rehabilitation setting or trauma-informed role would be highly desirable; however, full role-specific training will be provided.

An experienced career nanny with strong transferable skills will also be considered.

Essential Requirements:

– Professional childcare/nanny experience
– Enhanced DBS
– Paediatric First Aid completed within the past three years
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills
– Strong organisational and administrative skills
– Full UK driving licence and own car
– Ability to work professionally as part of a wider team

Working Pattern:

This is a 24/7 rota-supported service, with individual shifts and working patterns agreed between members of the team.

The position is permanent and will form part of an established care arrangement.

Experience supporting children with ADHD or additional needs would be highly desirable.
